I'm not really sure what all I know about Vampires. First off, there's the mainstream vampires, you know, holy water, crosses, and stakes. Then there's more modern, I guess, vampires like in Twilight. (Ooh...sparkly vampires says the Magpie...heheheh..) I've seen vampires on opposite sides of the intelligence scale, from mindless and primitive monsters to sexy and sophisticated.
There is a book that I sometimes check out at the library...you know...one of those old dusty books in the back...you're sure you're the only one who ever checks it out...called "The Legends of Blood".
The Legends of Blood is all about Vampire in history, poetry, art, etc. It come's complete with how vampires came all the way up to their habits and real life encounters. I really do like this book, and one of the best parts is you don't have to read it in order. If you don't want to read about the history of vampires, you can skip right on ahead to another section.
I have never read any of her books, but I have heard some amazing things about Anne Rice's books and look forwards to reading them. I have never even heard of The Historian before.

Which vampire style do you like better (As in the primitive monsters or sexy sophisticated almost-humans)? The sparkly thing is an interesting twist, but a little absurd. Oh, well.
ReplyDeleteArchaic library books are the best! There's always a sense of mystique and fear about them....
I own the vampire encyclopedia, you might want to read that sometime, tells about a lot of different kinds of vampire legends from Japan to Argentina. Also Ive read Legends of Blood, I really liked it. If you do like the primitive ones more you would definatly like the book My Swordhand is Singing by Marcus Sedgewick, actually I think you'd like all of his books
ReplyDeleteI personally like the ones that have a sort of primitive nobility about them, like from the middle ages. Yea, I swing that way, so what? I find the whole "Christian Vampire" theme to be very cute.
ReplyDeleteheh, i like your casual writing style....keep on going
ReplyDeletebtw, human-like vampires with dark humor ruleZZ!!!!
I think the sophisticated vampires are much more appealing. They don't have the zombie-like one track mind. It makes them seem more human.
ReplyDeleteI think I'll read the book you mentioned, it sounds interesting.
I amgree with Amanda Shotgun i will probly read The Ledgons of Blood sounds intresting but i planed on that sence you told me at school. i also like the same types of vamperies sorta, i like ones a little but later that that not the moderan ones but not middle aged ones.
ReplyDeleteAww, Bemoz, do you swing that way too? Lol
ReplyDeleteI agree with Claire about the sparkling in Twilight. It's Creative but pretty much dumb. I wouldn't mind a romance between a human and some sort of mythological creature that sparkles but not a vampire. Vampires are generally not associated with pretty joyful-like things like glitter.
ReplyDeleteThis book "The Legends of Blood" sounds most intriguing I'll have to check it out when I have the time.
